The social media app, Tik Tok, has become more and more popular over the past few years. The content found on this app ranges from trending dances, songs, recipes and more. For many months now a trend that I have been following is called “What I eat in a day”. This entails social media influencers creating videos that show clips of everything they eat in a day. Viewers may see meal plans, meal prep, or influencers just sitting in front of the camera eating a meal. The idea behind this trend is to portray a positive relationship with food and your body image.

Britanni Lancasters “What I eat in a day” example.

I follow an account on Tik Tok run by a woman that is recovering from multiple eating disorders. Brittani Lancaster shares her eating disorder experience and creates healthy, delicious meals and snacks and posts them to her page. Not only does she eat in her videos, she also talks about ways to love your body while having a good relationship with food.

I personally believe this trend is powerful and uplifting to all viewers. Even if you have a good relationship with food to begin with, these videos are fun and informative. There have been many Tik Tok recipes I have tried and continue to make still. As mentioned earlier, the “What I eat in a day” trend can be beneficial to society by creating the idea that food is not a negative thing. Along with that, this type of content may help Tik Tok gain more users due to the fact that “real” content is being posted. According to an article posted by Hootsuite, Tik Tok has already been downloaded more than 2 billion times. The app already has a large following, but because of the content they allow users to post, more people will being using the app. People want to follow influencers that create realistic goals, especially when it comes to goals regarding your personal appearance.

Overall, the “What I eat in a day” social media trend has had a positive impact on viewers so far. This encouraging content has helped millions of people create a positive relationship with food and with their body. Although not all social media trends have this impact on people, “What I eat in a day” videos should continue to be posted to social media to help make up for the negative trends that fill our screens everyday.
